The Governance and Court Services team provides professional support and secretariat services to the University’s governing body, the University Court, and other high-level corporate governance and management committees. In addition to Court and a number of its committees, we also support the University’s main management body, the University Executive. We report to the Deputy Secretary Governance & Strategic Planning.The essence of our role is to ensure that everyone involved in high-level decision making receives high-quality information and advice in a timely and clear way. This means managing the flow of key information from colleagues across the University in addition to providing information and advice directly on governance matters.Much of our work is in support of the Vice-Principal & University Secretary, who acts as Secretary to Court and has responsibility for the strategic development of the University’s governance processes and structures and for compliance with internal and external governance requirements.For further details on Court, its committees and the roles mentioned above, please follow the direct links. Court CommitteesUniversity ExecutiveDeputy Secretary Governance & Strategic PlanningVice-Principal & University Secretary Our regular activities include: Co-ordination, preparation and distribution of meeting papers for the University’s highest-level corporate governance and management bodies.Organising relevant meetings and ensuring they run smoothly.Providing advice to committee conveners, senior managers and other colleagues to make sure that decisions are made in the right ways.For example, advising on the requirements of the University’s Delegated Authority Schedule or Court’s Standing Orders or, in conjunction with Legal Services colleagues, advising on external requirements such as the Scottish Code of Good Higher Education Governance and relevant legislation. Reviewing and revising relevant procedures and practices, so that our governance practices remain efficient, effective and up to date.Advising on other policies and procedures from a corporate governance perspective.Managing the recruitment of Court and committee members, with due regard for the array of specialist skills and experience required and for diversity and equality. Co-ordinating electoral processes for the Senior Lay Member of Court, the Rector and elected staff members of Court.
