About the Fee Strategy Group.

The Fee Strategy Group's group's remit is:

Terms of reference:

Fee Strategy Group is an advisory group to Central Management Group. FSG will liaise with and, as appropriate, take account of the work of relevant University groups, committees, policies and strategies to provide strategically informed and expert guidance to CMG on matters relating to the setting of fee rates, funding policies and student rents.

Purpose:

The purpose of FSG is:

  • To ensure that all fee and funding policy decisions support and deliver the University’s strategic aims as outlined in the Strategic Plan and Student Recruitment Strategy.

  • To ensure thematic University strategies (for example, the Residential Accommodation Strategy and Widening Participation Strategy currently in development) are reflected in fee and funding recommendations to optimise strategic and financial outcomes for the University.

  • To ensure fee policies are compliant with legislative requirements, and are applied consistently where appropriate.

  • To evaluate the external environment, legislation and competitor behaviour and the impact on fee structure, rates and policies.

  • To evaluate existing fee policies and practices to ensure that decisions are optimal and incorporate appropriate innovations (i.e. Deposit policy introduced in 2016/17).

  • To advise Central Management Group on short-term fee issues and on indicative longer-term fee goals and positioning in the sector.

  • To advise the Student Recruitment Strategy Group on progress with the Fees and Funding dimension of the Student Recruitment Strategy.

  • To work closely with Colleges, Student Recruitment and Admissions, Scholarships and Student Funding Services, Edinburgh Global, Academic Services and Accommodation, Catering & Events to ensure fee, funding and rent policies can be effectively operationalised.
