Required documents Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) Process Step 1 Does a Memorandum of Understanding exist? Prospective partners must be endorsed by the University. In the case of International Partnerships you should follow the Global Partnerships Protocol. Global Partnership Protocol The School Office or Academic should establish at an early stage if an MoU already exists between the organisations. A list of existing agreements held by the University of Edinburgh is available below. Existing collaborative agreements If a MoU does exist, proceed to Step 4, if not, proceed to Step 2 Step 2 Due Diligence If no MoU exists, the School Officer or Academic carries out Due Diligence, in order to establish that the Partner University’s quality assurance and governance are of an equitable standard to those of the University of Edinburgh. Step 3 New Memorandum of Understanding 3.1 The MoU is produced by the Academic or School Officer using the templates available above. The completed template is then sent to the appropriate College/School Committee or Head for approval. Seek advice from the College Office as to which is the most appropriate approval route. 3.2 The College/School Committee or Head either rejects the MoU and returns it to the Academic, or approves and sends it to GaSP to arrange sign off and endorsement. 3.3 GaSP then send the MoU to the delegated signatory for approval. Once signed a copy is then logged in the collaborative repository and copies are forwarded to the School (and International Office if relevent). Step 4 Memorandum of Agreement 4.1 The Academic or School Officer then adapts the Memorandum of Agreement template to accommodate the specific academic and administrative requirements of the programme. 4.2 The MoA is formally approved by the College and School (either by the Head or the appropriate Committee) and sent to GaSP for formal sign off. 4.3 GaSP sends the MoA to the appropriate VP for sign off. GaSP will then save a copy of the agreement in the central repository and return the agreement to the School. 4.4 Once the MoA has been signed off, a formal Offer can be made to the students by UoE.
