Recruitment and election of the new Senior Lay Member of the University Court

Dr Frank Armstrong has been announced as the next Senior Lay Member of the University’s governing body, the University Court, following election by University staff, students and Court members. He will take up the role for a period of four years starting from 1 August 2026.

Three candidates stood in the election following an open recruitment process. The results are published below along with Frank’s biography and candidate statement.

Background

The role of Senior Lay Member is similar to the Chair of an institution and is responsible for the overall leadership of the University's governing body, the University Court. They chair the business items at Court meetings and ensure that Court works together and conducts its business effectively and efficiently, with due consideration of legal and compliance issues.
